Why fake engagement is toxic and bad for you, and you need to do something about it.
Online Insincerity and Lack of Awareness
Recently I wrote an article about Digital Identity vs Real Identity, backed up by research. Some people found it good and remarked positively on it, whereas others seemed indifferent, doubtful, and confused that our online identities could so closely resemble our real-life ones. This is the article I wrote.
Many people do not want to know the truth — that their online behavior is “observable” and traceable across the internet on various social media platforms and websites. Machine Learning Algorithms track and trace online consumer behavior (preferences, likes, dislikes, music, art, etc). People still think they can be clever and deceitful (false persona) and “mask” their real identity, but it is becoming harder to “hide” and remain anonymous online.
The result is behavior that people think they are hiding and masking is not hidden and is obvious to anyone observant. Groups on Facebook huddle together in the false sense of security (indeed insecurity) that their behavior is non-observable, but nothing is further from the truth, and everyone notices and remarks on the falseness of fake engagement in online groups. It should not be accepted, as it is not genuine or sincere.
