Another crime story -the Bali crime

True crime with crypto
The true crime genre allows audiences to see inside the minds of those who have committed, what forensic psychologists refer to as "a most fundamental taboo and also, perhaps, a most fundamental human impulse"—murder. "In every case," according to their assertions, "there is an assessment to be made about the enormity of evil involved."
As a fan of such stories, and a fan of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies, I'm trying to combine them both, so I found another thrilling story... with cryptos behind.
The Bali case
In May 2023, the rich and famous world was shaken by shocking discoveries of a Bali crime scene involving a crypto billionaire pair, girlfriend Cheng Jianan and her partner Li Chiming. This horrifying tragedy occurred within the opulent surroundings of a 5-star Balinese resort, sending shockwaves across the global community.
The gruesome discovery
The girlfriend's lifeless body was discovered, having been strangled with her own pajamas.
Her partner, discovered nude and wearing the scars of over 20 wounds across his body and castrated, looked to be in agony, desperately crawling up the corridor, his calls for help echoing across the scene. He eventually died as a result of his injuries.
The horrible nature of these injuries suggested a murder-suicide scenario. However, detectives pondered how the guy had managed to inflict such severe cuts on his own back. What triggered this abrupt outburst of aggression against his fiancée, and what were the consequences of the several hotel reservations made that fateful night on Bali?
Investigation
Bali Island Police Chief Bangyugo Pamongas got into their extensive investigation, which involved 31 people involved in the crime and used the results of rigorous forensic testing as a critical reference point.
During the inquiry, law enforcement officials revealed the existence of a conflict between the couple, but the particular triggers of this encounter remain unclear. Meanwhile, surveillance footage revealed a sequence of events leading up to the tragedy. Cheng Jianan arrived at the hotel alone and checked in, followed by Li Chiming, who arrived in the lobby and waited shortly before joining Cheng in their shared room.
Further surveillance analysis indicated that Li Chiming momentarily fled the room at 12:50 a.m. and returned after a brief interval, during which he cast a peek toward the neighboring room. Food was delivered to their room about 1:15 a.m., and the hotel personnel soon left. Li Chiming exited the room once more, paused at the entrance, and ultimately returned.
The footage showed Li Chiming, covered in blood, creeping out of the room at 6:32 a.m. on the fateful day, dying of his injuries in the corridor at 6:55 a.m. The police have reaffirmed their commitment to conducting a thorough and continuing investigation, which will include more evidence collecting, review of hotel security footage, and interviews with witnesses.
Crypto Chad
Li was a famous player in the cryptocurrency world with a phenomenal fortune of over $500 million in crypto assets, had traveled to Bali with a huge financial transaction on the horizon. Such a huge wealth profile inevitably sparked interest, raising the question of whether his presence in the Indonesian paradise had unintentionally painted a bullseye on his back.
In this context, the possibility of opportunistic criminals or even business rivals attempting to profit off his bitcoin success becomes more likely. It implies that the pair may have been followed by someone with a strong interest in their bitcoin investments. Both had different hotel reservations in Bali for the same night.
The couple's habit of changing hotels on a frequent basis around Southeast Asia appears to be a purposeful attempt to avoid possible criminals who may have been watching their activities.
Other controverises
Various viewpoints point to a considerably more sinister story, in which he was reportedly implicated in a large fraud, transferring off around 14 million dollars from the JY Group, a well-established Chinese corporation noted for its participation in money laundering.
It is believed that after the JY Group discovered Cheng's alleged crimes, they began a contract on his life. Such contracts, in the underworld of illicit businesses, sometimes serve dual functions — not just as a way of removing persons regarded a threat, but also as a terrifying cautionary tale to discourage others from following in their footsteps.
The investigation is still underway, with several ideas swirling about. As long as the cryptic parts of this Bali tragedy stay dispersed, the elusive truth remains latent, waiting for its moment of unveiling, if it ever arrives.
