X-owner Elon Musk has taken a significant stride by applying for payment processing licenses across most American states for the utilization of X. The tech mogul aims to enable users to conduct transactions seamlessly through the X app starting in the summer of 2024.
The introduction of a payment feature within X was initially unveiled in August. Linda Yaccarino, the company's top executive, views this as the pivotal first step toward transforming X into an all-encompassing application.
Musk has harbored a long-standing aspiration to develop an app that encompasses various functionalities, a motive that prompted his acquisition of the former Twitter platform last year. "Acquiring Twitter expedites the development of X, the comprehensive app," tweeted the billionaire in anticipation of the acquisition.
Speculations abound that Musk envisions crafting a Western counterpart to the Chinese WeChat. While fundamentally a messaging app, WeChat boasts a myriad of functionalities.
WeChat users can engage in diverse activities, spanning from online shopping and perusing news to securing loans, arranging food deliveries, and even booking transportation services. The app boasts an extensive daily user base of over a billion individuals in China.
Musk's pursuit seems aimed at creating an app that amalgamates various services, mirroring the versatility of WeChat, but with a distinct Western appeal. This move not only signifies a leap forward for X but also echoes Musk's ambition to innovate and diversify app functionalities in the tech sphere.
